Law of the Spirit and Law of Moses Contrasted

Law of the Spirit and Law of Moses Contrasted

Once again, here is why the law of Moses was temporal, and the Law of Christ and the Law of the Spirit are not.

The Law of Moses is the ministry of death, the Law of the Spirit is a ministry of life.

2 Cor 3:7-8 Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, transitory though it was, (8) will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious?

Rom 8:2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.

2 Cor 3:6 He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

It was the Law of Moses that was engraved in letters. That ministry brought death. This is a direct contrast to "the Law of the Spirit" which gives life.

The same law cannot be both, a ministry of death and a ministry of life.

The Law of Moses was powerless, weak, useless and unable to impart life.

Rom 8:3 For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh,

Heb 7:18-19 The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless (19) (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.

Gal 3:21 Is the law, therefore, opposed to the promises of God? Absolutely not! For if a law had been given that could impart life, then righteousness would certainly have come by the law.

The law that was powerless, weak, useless and unable to impart life was the Law of Moses. But the Law of the Spirit gives life!!! the same law cannot be both unable to impart life, and yet, give life.

Rom 8:2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.

The Law of Moses could not make one righteous.

Gal 2:21 I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!"

Gal 3:21 Is the law, therefore, opposed to the promises of God? Absolutely not! For if a law had been given that could impart life, then righteousness would certainly have come by the law.

Righteousness does not come through the law, yet, many believe it does, and not only that, they believe that the law that does not make them righteous will save them.

The Law of the Spirit is not opposed to the Law of Moses

Gal 3:21 Is the law, therefore, opposed to the promises of God? Absolutely not! For if a law had been given that could impart life, then righteousness would certainly have come by the law.

2 Cor 3:9-11 If the ministry that brought condemnation was glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness! (10) For what was glorious has no glory now in comparison with the surpassing glory.

Why was the Law of Moses temporal? Because it was powerless, weak, useless and unable to impart life. The Law of Moses has given way to that which can impart life, the Law of the Spirit. "One Law" adherents error greatly in conflating the Law of Moses which could not impart life and the Law of the Spirit which does impart life.

The ministry of the Law of Moses that brought condemnation was still a good law, and a guide, guardian, tutor to Israel, but how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness, the Law of the Spirit.

The Law of the Spirit is the Perfect Law, not the Law of Moses

Jas 1:25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it--not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it--they will be blessed in what they do.

Rom 8:2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.

The Law of Moses was powerless, weak and useless and unable to impart life. It could make no one free, not even partly free. All remained in condemnation under the Law of Moses. The perfect law gives freedom, and necessarily is the Law of the Spirit, which has "set us free". Condemnation and freedom cannot come from the same law.

The Law of Moses and the Law of the Spirit are two different sets of law.

The Law of Moses did nothing but bring condemnation and death, but the Law of the Spirit gives life. The law of Moses is powerless, weak, useless and unable to impart life. The Law of the Spirit is all powerful to effectively set us free from sin and impart life.
