A Study of Prophecy - Handout - Events Between Tribulation and Kingdom

There will be a period of time between the end of the Tribulation and the start of the Millennial Kingdom where a number of things take place, listed below. This period is defined by Daniel as 75 years (1,260 days+75=1,335) (Dan_12:12). Those who survive past these 75 years will be blessed with entry into the Millennial Kingdom.

The Removal of the Abomination of Desolation

The Abomination of Desolation will remain in the temple for 30 days past the end of the Tribulation, then it will be removed (1,260 days+30=1,290) (Dan_12:11, Dan_7:25, Rev 11:2, Rev_12:12-14, Rev_13:5).

The Antichrist and the False Prophet Cast Into the Lake of Fire

Isaiah, Habakkuk and Paul declare that the Antichrist will be one of the first casualties of the 2nd Coming of Christ (Isa_14:16-17, Hab_3:13, 2Th_2:8). The Antichrist will not be buried with others that had been slain by Messiah, as he is cast alive into the lake of fire (Rev_19:20).

Satan Cast Into the Fifth Abode

Satan will be locked into the Abyss for 1000 years and unable to deceive the people in the nations any longer. After the 1000 years confinement, Satan will be released one more time for a short period (Rev_20:1-3).

The Judgment of the Gentiles (Sheep and Goat Judgment)

A detailed look at the resurrections and judgments can be found in this article to help understand this and the next two topics: A Look At the Resurrections and Judgments - (https://www.tojesusbeallglory.com/2021/05/a-look-at-resurrections-and-judgments.html)

The purpose of this judgment is to determine eligibility to enter the Kingdom. Those not eligible to enter the Kingdom will be banished to the lake of fire. The criteria for judgment is what as individuals they did to God's people, Israel (Joe_1:1-3, Joe_3:1-2, Mat_25:31-46).

The Resurrection of Old Testament Saints

Their will be a resurrection of Old Testament (OT) saints (Isa_26:19, Dan_12:1-2, Dan_12:12-13). These OT saints are the "friends of the bridegroom" (Joh_3:29).

The Resurrection of Tribulation Saints

In addition to Old Testament saints rising at this time, believers who died during the Tribulation will also arise (Rev_20:4). Rev_20:4 reveals two groups of believers reigning with Christ for 1000 years, the church (2Ti_2:12, Rev_5:9-10, Mat_19:28) and the Tribulation saints.

The Marriage Feast of the Lamb

Those that make it to the wedding feast are blessed (Dan_12:12, Rev_19:9). The Bride is the Raptured church and the guests are resurrected OT and Tribulation believers.

The Wedding Feast Parable - at Mat_22:1-14 shows that Jesus had previously invited the Christ rejecting Jewish people to the wedding feast (and Millennial Kingdom) (Mat_22:1-5), they mistreated the disciples which resulted in the destruction of Jerusalem in 70AD (Mat_22:6-7), a second wedding is arranged for everyone (Jew and Gentile) (Mat_22:8-10), but only believers are allowed in (Mat_22:11-14).

The 10 Virgins Parable - also speaks of the marriage feast (and the Millennial Kingdom). Believers have the oil of the Holy Spirit, and the unbelievers do not (Mat_25:1-5), the bridegroom comes to the sleeping virgins of whom only those with oil (Holy Spirit) are allowed entry (Mat_25:6-13).

A Study of Prophecy - Events Between End of Tribulation and Start of Messianic Kingdom

Events Before the Millennial Kingdom Starts

There will be a period of time between the end of the Tribulation and Jesus's ascent up Mount Olives in victory and the actual start of the Millennial Kingdom. The period of time between the end of the Tribulation and the start of the Millennial Kingdom is defined by Daniel.

Dan 12:11-12 "From the time that the daily sacrifice is abolished and the abomination that causes desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days. (12) Blessed is the one who waits for and reaches the end of the 1,335 days.

What is of interest here is that those who survive past the 1,335 days will be blessed. 1,335 days is 75 days past the end of the Tribulation, which lasted for 1,260 days (Three and a half years) (Dan 7:25, Rev 11:2, Rev 12:12-14, Rev 13:5).

There are a number of events that will occur in these days leading up to the establishment of the Kingdom 75 days past the end of the Tribulation. Those events will be covered next.

The Removal of the Abomination of Desolation

There is a second number of days mentioned in Daniel's prophecy above, and that number of days is how long the Abomination of Desolation will remain in the temple following the end of the Tribulation. This abomination will remain in the temple for 30 days past the end of the Tribulation, then it will be removed.

The Antichrist and the False Prophet Cast Into the Lake of Fire

Isaiah, Habakkuk and Paul declared that the Antichrist was one of the first casualties of the 2nd Coming of Christ.

Isa 14:16-17 Those who see you stare at you, they ponder your fate: "Is this the man who shook the earth and made kingdoms tremble, (17) the man who made the world a wilderness, who overthrew its cities and would not let his captives go home?"

Hab 3:13 You came out to deliver your people, to save your anointed one. You crushed the leader of the land of wickedness, you stripped him from head to foot.

2Th 2:8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming.

Isaiah declared that the Antichrist would not be buried with others that had been slain by Messiah. This is because we learn in Rev 19:20 that the Antichrist is cast ALIVE into the lake of fire. So the Antichrist is apparently resurrected at some point.

Isa 14:16-20 Those who see you stare at you, they ponder your fate: "Is this the man who shook the earth and made kingdoms tremble, (17) the man who made the world a wilderness, who overthrew its cities and would not let his captives go home?" (18) All the kings of the nations lie in state, each in his own tomb. (19) But you are cast out of your tomb like a rejected branch; you are covered with the slain, with those pierced by the sword, those who descend to the stones of the pit. Like a corpse trampled underfoot, (20) you will not join them in burial, for you have destroyed your land and killed your people. Let the offspring of the wicked never be mentioned again.

Rev 19:20 But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who had performed the signs on its behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.

Satan Cast Into the Abyss

Satan will be locked into the Abyss for 1000 years and unable to deceive the people in the nations any longer. After the 1000 years confinement, Satan will be released one more time for a short period.

Rev 20:1-3 And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a great chain. (2) He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. (3) He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time.

The Judgment of the Gentiles

A detailed look at the resurrections and judgments can be found in this article:

A Look At the Resurrections and Judgments

This judgment takes place between the end of the Tribulation and the start of the Millennial Kingdom. The purpose of this judgment is to determine eligibility to enter the Kingdom. Those not eligible to enter the Kingdom will be banished to the lake of fire. The criteria for judgment is what as individuals they did to God's people, Israel.

The first passage to discuss this judgment is in Joel.

Joel 3:1-3 "In those days and at that time, when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem, (2) I will gather all nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will put them on trial for what they did to my inheritance, my people Israel, because they scattered my people among the nations and divided up my land. (3) They cast lots for my people and traded boys for prostitutes; they sold girls for wine to drink.

The second passage discussing this judgment is found in Matthew. Mathew details the judge, judgment and those judged in vs. 31-33.

Mat 25:31-33 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. (32) All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. (33) He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

Verses 34-40 then detail the behavior of the pro-semitic sheep. Isa 13:1-5 also reveals the behavior of pro-Israel sheep, as the army being amassed are doing so in support of Israel.

Mat 25:34-40 "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. (35) For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, (36) I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.' (37) "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? (38) When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? (39) When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' (40) "The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'

The anti-semitic goats behavior is defined next in vs. 41-45. These are those who will not survive past the 1,335 days spoken of at the top of this article.

Mat 25:41-46 "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. (42) For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, (43) I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.' (44) "They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?' (45) "He will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.' (46) "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."

The Resurrection of Old Testament Saints

A detailed look at the resurrections and judgments can be found in this article:

A Look At the Resurrections and Judgments

The resurrection and timing for Old Testament saints are detailed in Isaiah and Daniel. Isaiah is a general statement that a resurrection will occur.

Isa 26:19 But your dead will live, LORD; their bodies will rise-- let those who dwell in the dust wake up and shout for joy-- your dew is like the dew of the morning; the earth will give birth to her dead.

The context of Daniel 12 is after the Tribulation, which helps to place the timing as following the Tribulation, at the end of the age. These Old Testament saints that are risen are the "friends of the bridegroom in Joh 3:29.

Dan 12:1-2 "At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people--everyone whose name is found written in the book--will be delivered. (2) Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt.

Dan 12:12-13 Blessed is the one who waits for and reaches the end of the 1,335 days. (13) "As for you, go your way till the end. You will rest, and then at the end of the days you will rise to receive your allotted inheritance."

Joh 3:29 The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom's voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete.

The Resurrection of Tribulation Saints

A detailed look at the resurrections and judgments can be found in this article:

A Look At the Resurrections and Judgments

After the Rapture which removes all believers from earth, there is a great revival due to the work of the 2 Witnesses and the 144,000 Jewish evangelists. People who are alive at that time and chose not to take the mark of the beast or worship the Antichrist will be killed. In addition to Old Testament saints rising at this time, believers who died during the Tribulation will also arise.

Rev 20:4 I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

Rev 20:4 reveals two groups of believers reigning with Christ for 1000 years. First is "those who had been given authority to judge. These are the church which consists of both Jews and Gentiles, which was previously Raptured, and had previously been judged at the Bema Judgment. One of the rewards at the Bema judgment is ruling and reigning with Christ.

2Ti 2:12 if we endure, we will also reign with him.

Rev 5:9-10 And they sang a new song, saying: "You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation. (10) You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth."

Mat 19:28 Jesus said to them, "Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

The second group in Rev 20:4 is "those who had been beheaded because of their testimony" during the Tribulation period. They will also rule and reign with Christ.

The Marriage Feast of the Lamb

The Marriage Feast in Israel took place over 7 days. The Bride in this event is the Raptured church. The Guests are resurrected believing saints from the Old Testament and believers from the Tribulation.

Rev 19:9 Then the angel said to me, "Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!" And he added, "These are the true words of God."

The Wedding Feast

The point of this parable speaks to the events surrounding the Wedding Feast. The illustration in Mat 22:1-5 shows that Jesus had invited the scribes and Pharisees back in the early part of His ministry, but they were not interested in Him. At this point the invitation is for the people of Israel.

Mat 22:1-5 Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying: (2) "The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son. (3) He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come. (4) "Then he sent some more servants and said, 'Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner: My oxen and fattened cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.' (5) "But they paid no attention and went off--one to his field, another to his business.

In fact, as Mat 22:6-7 show, some of them eventually mistreated the disciples and killed them, which angered the Lord, which eventually ended up with the burning of Jerusalem in 70AD.

Mat 22:6-7 The rest seized his servants, mistreated them and killed them. (7) The king was enraged. He sent his army and destroyed those murderers and burned their city.

Jesus then tells His servants about those He had previously invited, indicating that they did not deserve to come to the wedding feast. They were banished from the wedding feast, or the Millennial Kingdom, due to their committing the unpardonable sin (Mat 12:24). Nevertheless, after the Tribulation period, we are finally ready once again for a wedding banquet (Rev 19:7). This time everyone (the Jewish people and Gentiles) is invited to attend except the ones who previously mistreated and killed Jesus' servants, I.E. false religious prophets and teachers and those unbelievers who followed them.

Mat 22:8-10 "Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come. (9) So go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.' (10) So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, the bad as well as the good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.

Although the gospel is open to everyone, some will not believe, and attendance at the wedding feast is for believers only.

Mat 22:11-14 "But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. (12) He asked, 'How did you get in here without wedding clothes, friend?' The man was speechless. (13) "Then the king told the attendants, 'Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' (14) "For many are invited, but few are chosen."

The 10 Virgins

The parable of the 10 virgins also speaks in the context of the marriage feast, and contrasts between believers and unbelievers. Believers have the oil of the Holy Spirit, and the unbelievers do not.

Mat 25:1-5 "At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. (2) Five of them were foolish and five were wise. (3) The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. (4) The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. (5) The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

At a day and time that is not known to us (Mat 25:13, Mat 24:50, Mar 13:32, Luk 12:46), the "bridegroom", Jesus, will cry out for us to come out and meet Him. Unbelievers or those who are too busy will find that without the Holy Spirit, they are going nowhere, and by the time they do remedy the situation, it will be too late.

Mat 25:6-13 "At midnight the cry rang out: 'Here's the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!' (7) "Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. (8) The foolish ones said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.' (9) "'No,' they replied, 'there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.' (10) "But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut. (11) "Later the others also came. 'Lord, Lord,' they said, 'open the door for us!' (12) "But he replied, 'Truly I tell you, I don't know you.' (13) "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.

Handout - Matthew Chapter 2:13-23 - Egypt, Herod and Nazareth

Matthew 2:13-15 - The Flight to Egypt

Matt 2:13 - Soon after the Magi left, an angel told Joseph in a dream to to go to Egypt. With a population containing about 1 million Jews, Egypt was a safe place. Although a province of Rome, it was outside the jurisdiction of Herod. Joseph was to urgently get the family up in the night and get on the road and remain in Egypt until God told Joseph it was safe to return to Israel.

Matt 2:14-15a - Joseph was again immediately obedient and the left during the night for Egypt, about 75 miles away. They remained there until Herod died. Note that God could have protected the child in many different ways, yet chose to move the child from place to place to avoid Herod. This exposure raised the expectations of the Jewish people that the King had arrived.

Matt 2:14-15b The second of four prophetic references in the 2nd chapter, this reference is to Hos 11:1. Hosea is referring to the Exodus, fleeing Pharaoh and crossing the Red Sea to Mt. Sinai Exo 12:40-41. Hosea saw God's love for Israel in the Exodus and how God called them out from Egypt. Matthew is correlating Hosea's statement with what happened with the King, in that the King also sojourned in Egypt for a time and was called from Egypt. In both of these events, God's purpose was to preserve the life of the King.

Matthew 2:16-18 - Herod Kills the Children

Matt 2:16 - King Herod was appointed by Rome, and his great fear was loosing his power and control over Israel. He had killed wife and sons to preserve his grip on the throne, and killing children was not beyond his means. Bethlehem with a population of about 1000 would have had perhaps 20 children less than 2 years old, less of just males. Jesus would have been somewhere between a few months and a year and half old.

Matt 2:17-18 - This is the third prophetic reference in this chapter. This prophecy comes from Jeremiah Jer 31:15 and is actually an encouragement to Israel. In the context of Jeremiah's statement, the Lord was saying that in spite of appearances, the Israelites will eventually be rewarded Jer 31:16-18. Matthew is showing that the death of the children at the hands of Herod represent the destruction of the Israelites by the Assyrians, and that the fulfillment includes the blessings that follow The King and Kingdom is the fulfillment of those promised blessings.

Matthew 2:19-23 - The Return to Nazareth

Matt 2:19-20 - Joseph again receives a dream, and in the dream, an angel tells Joseph that Herod and his assassins have died and it is safe to resume travel back to Israel. Dreams were a common method of communication in Old Testament and early Christian times. As mentioned earlier, this fulfills the passage from Hos 11:1 that speaks of Messiah being called out of Egypt.

Matt 2:22 - Following the death of Herod, his son Archelaus was put into power over Judea. The Jews feared him more than Herod. Archelaus was so evil that even Rome hated him and had him removed from power after 10 years. When Joseph and his family arrived back in Israel, they had heard that Archelaus was ruling over Judea. Joseph was afraid to go there, and having had another dream in which he was warned about Archelaus, the family set out for Nazareth in the district of Galilee.

Matt 2:23 - Interestingly, there is no record of any prophet stating that Jesus would be called a Nazarene. Note that this is not a quotation, but Matthew is drawing from a composite of several comments in prophetic literature. The sense here is that as Nazareth was a despised city, so also the King would be despised Joh 1:43-46, Act 24:5-6.

Handout - Matthew Chapter 2:1-12 - Magi and Herod

Matthew 2:1 - The Magi and Herod

Magi - From the east, Persia (Iran) or Babylon (Iraq). Daniel was an associate Dan 2:13, who interceded for their lives while in Babylon Dan 2:24. He could be the source of the Magi understanding the birth of the King being accompanied by an astronomical sign Num 24:17. God chose to announce the birth of the King to Jewish shepherds (Luk 2:8-20) and Gentiles, not the religious or political establishments.

Herod - Herod enjoyed Roman protection and support. He was not Jewish, although Rome had installed him as the "King of Judea" in 40 BC. He was a usurper. Herod was a great city builder, and even built the second temple in Jerusalem, but he was also a man of great violence.

Matthew 2:2-3 - The Magi and Herod (continued)

The Magi arriving at the palace asking about the King of the Jews was seen as a severe threat by Herod, for the Jews desired their own king on the throne. "All Jerusalem [being disturbed] with him" shows the pressure the Jews were under being subject to Herod and the Romans. Neither of them put up with rebellion, and Israel was known already as a rebellious people with fanatical heros Act 5:36-37, Act 19:25-29. The fear on the part of the Jewish people is seen in their reaction to Pilate trying to set Jesus free Joh 19:12-15. It was a tense time.

Matthew 2:4 - Birthplace of Messiah Queried

Herod conspired to determine from the Jews where the Messiah was to be born. Herod's use of the term "Messiah" shows the understanding that the Jewish King Jesus would be both King, the Son of David, to rule over the earth, and also Messiah, savior of the Jewish people from their sins.

Matthew 2:5-6 - Birthplace of Messiah Answered

The religious leaders told Herod that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem of Judea. The "of Judea" is important for prophetically the King of the Jews, the Messiah would come from there Mic 5:2. King David was born and lived here.

Matthew 2:7-8 - Time of the Star Queried

After learning the birthplace of this King of the Jews, Herod met privately with the Magi, and inquired of them the exact time the Star had been seen. His intent was to kill the child, and asked the Magi to return and tell him who the child was.

Matthew 2:9-10 - The Magi Head to Bethlehem

The Magi set off for Bethlehem without the star in view, as indicated by their joy when they saw it. One wonders why Gentiles would be so excited to visit a king born to a non-royal family in such a small and politically weak nation as Israel. They apparently had information about this King that excited their hearts.

Matthew 2:11 - The Magi Arrive in Bethlehem

Interestingly, the Magi here entered a "house", not a "stable" as the shepherds had, indicating that some time had past since the King was born. The Magi believed Jesus to be a superior person to themselves, since they fell down to worship.

Matthew 2:12 - The Magi Warned

The Magi themselves were in danger from Herod. There would be no allowing these men to travel back to their homeland to spread the word of a King of the Jews and Messiah to create a stir. God protected the Magi via a dream and sent them home circumventing Herod.

Handout - Matthew Chapter 1:1-25 - Genealogy and Birth

Introduction

The book of Matthew is a Jewish book from around 65AD. Matthew uses a great quantity of Old Testament (OT) quotes which reveal his audience to be Jews who know the Hebrew scriptures.

Matthew will show the Messiahship of Jesus and the Kingdom program of God. Because the Jews rejected their king, Matthew will explain how Israel rejected the King, the Kingdom postponement, and the inauguration of the church as a result of the postponement of the Kingdom.

Matthew 1:1 - Genealogy Prologue

Matthew starts the genealogy off in Mat 1:1 by indicating that Jesus is both, the "son of David" and "the son of Abraham". The "son of David" speaks to Jesus coming as King, as per the Davidic Covenant 2Sa 7:12, Mic 5:2. The Jewish people expected a king to come Joh 1:48-49. The "son of Abraham" speaks to the promise "all people will be blessed through you" Gen 12:3.

Matthew 1:2-17 -The Genealogy

Matthew's begins with Abraham, the first Hebrew Mat 1:2-17. It is interesting to note the women in the genealogy, Tamar - A woman of questionable moral judgment (Gen 38:6-30), Rahab - A Gentile prostitute - (Jos 2:1-24), Ruth - A Moabite Woman (a foreigner) - The Book of Ruth, Uriah's wife - Bathsheba, whom with David bore an illegitimate son, Solomon - (2Sa 11:1-27). These women reveal God's delight in accomplishing His tasks with whomever He chooses. In Mat 1:16 Mary is said to be the "mother of Jesus", hinting at the virgin birth.

Matthew 1:18-20 - Joseph Torn

Betrothal in Jewish Law was the same as marriage, except they didn't live together. Joseph was betrothed to Mary. Pregnancy outside marriage could be a capital crime Deu 22:22-24, or the woman could be put away quietly, which Joseph chose. As a compassionate and righteous man, he was concerned for both Mary and the law. After his struggle and decision to be merciful and settle this quietly, an angel in a dream assured Joseph that he did not need to fear from breaking the law or taking Mary as his wife, for Mary had conceived through the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 1:21-23 - The Angelic Visit

The angel tells Joseph that he is to name the child "Jesus", "because He will save His people from their sins". The Jewish people would have associated Jesus with the Messianic work of salvation. So Jesus's work was to be two fold, to reign as King in Jerusalem, and to save His people (the Jews) from their sin Luk 2:25-30. The angel connects the virgin conception to the prophet Isaiah Isa 7:14, emphasizing that Jesus was indeed God among us. Luke add detail on the topic of Jesus's throne and kingdom, emphasizing "descendant of David" Luk 1:27, who will be given the throne Luk 1:32-33 as an everlasting kingdom.

Matthew 1:24-25 - The Conclusion of the Genealogical Account

Upon receiving the dream, Joseph with no question proceeds with the orderly process of marrying Mary. There is no reason to suspect he went in a hurry to do this, unless their wedding day was already upon them, but Joseph would have just followed their normal course of action. The one thing that Joseph did though is not consummate their marriage until after the birth of Jesus.

Handout - Messianic Kingdom - Facets of Israel's Restoration

Israel in the Kingdom - Four Facets of Israel's Final Restoration

The Regeneration of Israel on the Basis of The New Covenant

Israel's regeneration comes as a result of their repentant hearts and crying out for Messiah to return. Jesus lamented over Jerusalem as His crucifixion drew near, saying that the Jewish people would not see Him again until the cried out for the Messiah Mat 23:37-39, and they respond in sorrow Zec 12:10, which will lead to their salvation, which is yet to come, Isa 59:20-21, Isa 29:22-24, Isa 44:1-5, Isa 45:17, resulting in "all Israel being saved" Rom 11:25-27, Jer 31:31-34.

Other passages speaking of Israel's future regeneration include: (Jer 24:7, Jer 50:19-20, Eze 11:19-20, Eze 36:25-27, Hos 1:10-11 to Hos 2:1, Hos 14:4-8, Joel 2:28-32, Mic 7:18-20, Zep 3:9-13).

The Regathering of Israel on the Basis of the Land Covenant

As a result of Israel's repentant heart, which is an outworking of the Tribulation period of the final 7 of 490 years probation for sin, they will be restored to the land expanding to include the entirety of the boundaries originally promised to them. The text supporting Israel's return to the land following regeneration is found in Deu 29:1-29 continuing with Deu 30:1-20. The outworking of this covenant is foretold by Isaiah and several other prophets Isa 11:11-12, Isaiah sees regenerated Israel being gathered up one by one Isa 27:12-13, from the whole world Isa 43:5-7. Jeremiah speaks to this regathering as a monumental event Jer 16:14-15. Jesus, in the Olivet Discourse speaks about this regathering at the conclusion of the Tribulation period Mat 24:29-31.

Other passages that speak about the second regathering are: (Jer 23:3-4, Jer 23:7-8, Jer 31:7-10, Eze 11:14-18, Eze 36:24, Amos 9:14-15, Zep 3:18-20, Zec 10:8-12).

The Possession of the Land on the Basis of the Abrahamic Covenant

Although Israel was promised the land in the everlasting and unconditional Abrahamic and Land Covenants, their use of the land was conditional. While Israel in it's unregenerate state repeatedly turned away from the Lord and lost the use of the land, the prophets have made it clear that at Israel's regeneration at the end of the Tribulation period, they will satisfy the requirements for the use of the land.

A sequence of events leading up to this are, Abraham told to go to this land that Israel was to be given Gen 12:1, Abraham would be made into a great nation (of Israel) Gen 12:2-3, the land would be given to his offspring Gen 12:7, his offspring would be his own flesh and blood Gen 15:3-4, the boundaries of this land were defined Gen 15:18-21, the covenant was confirmed to Isaac, Abraham's flesh and blood descendant Gen 26:2-5, the covenant was confirmed to Jacob, Abraham's flesh and blood descendant Gen 28:13-15.

Below is the prophetic string showing that Israel's future regeneration will finally meet the conditions required to actually possess and use the land. The Levitical Law Lev 26:40-45, God remembers the land, Isa 30:23-26, Isa 35:1-2, Isa 65:21-24, Jer 31:11-14. God has promised to bring Israel back to their land Eze 20:42-44.

Other passages that speak of the use and blessing of the land are (Deu 30:5, Isa 27:12, Jer 31:1-6, Eze 28:25-26, Eze 34:25-31, Eze 36:8-15, Eze 36:28-38, Joel 2:18-27, Joel 3:18, Amos 9:13)

The Reestablishment of the Davidic Throne on the Basis of the Davidic Covenant

A fourth facet of Israel's restoration has to do with the throne of David in Jerusalem, from which Jesus will rule with a rod of iron. As referenced earlier, the passages that speak of this Davidic Covenant are 2Sa 7:11-16 and 1Ch 17:10-14.

Jesus will be raised as King Jer 23:5-6, a wise King over a kingdom that will never end Isa 9:6-7, Psa 89:3-4, Psa 89:29, Psa 89:34-37 due to a covenant which can never be broken Jer 33:20-22. Amos speaks about the Davidic Covenant as David's fallen shelter Amos 9:11-12, (cf. Act 15:1-17). Luke records his understanding that the child, Jesus is destined to be great and to be given the throne of His father David, and that this kingdom will never end Luk 1:32-33.
